The devil years for the angel.

Being together has consequences

But still, both sides yearn for the other.

I wanted this piece to signify the forbidden love trope. Both sides want to be together, but their are certain obstacles that get in the way of that, e.g. homophobia, misogyny, or religion. The fact that one is a devil and one an angel is to further perpetuate how it is seen as “wrong” to be with the same sex or gender. As well as in many stories of the past where two people were very obviously lovers, historians will refer to them as anything but that.

Their skin color also has another role to play in this as well. In a lot of media their is this stereotype that is played out where people of darker skin are more aggressive or considered the “mean black woman.” Where as the lighter skin that you have the more innocent or pure you are deemed. While I fed into that in the drawing, I wanted to bring question to those stereotypes based on the more innocent and doe features of the devil and more mature and siren-like features of the angel. Just because you are a devil doesn’t make you bad and just because you are an angel doesn’t make you good.
